  • This is not a Johnny Cash song! This song is a traditional song going back to the 1920's about a black girl that was murdered in the year 1900. It also goes by the name "All my friends are gone." He did not write the lyrics.

  • thanks for the comment...but nowhere on here do i say cash wrote the song...it just refers to who has done this version...i knew it was a traditional tune and im sure cash did as well...this is actually the second time cash as done this song but with fewer lyrics...one question though...who was the artist who did it in the 20`s

  • tho i'm not to keen on the lyrics, i love your voice and your guitar playin

  • like johnny said its an anti delia song not an anti woman song there gem...thanks

  • thanks! great comment. i like when people say where the song is from

  • Blind Willie McTell did the original version. He was a blues guitarist who was very well known in folk music circles. He played a mean 12 string guitar. The original lyrics tell the true story of Delia being killed by her bo named "Kenny" who stabbed her out of jelous rage fro talking to another guy. Today, it wouldn't have been newsworthy. In 1900 it was shocking. Many peope have done their own versions and the lyrics have changed as well. Listen to his version

  • IT'S perfect

  • Who cares who wrote it. Its pretty apparent that the "Man" did it best, as he did with everything he performed. JC FOREVER

  • I was dammned from the beginning... f'k

I lived in Memphis too.. double f'k

I love this song.. double kudos to the Johnny Cash version...

  • The lyrics of this song are incredible. It's how every man has felt after their unfaithfull woman did them wrong. Outstanding.
