@videosauce OH, I agree with you SO hardcore. In canon Irene was only in what? two stories? Psh. And you're absolutely right, Holmes needs/wants Watson, and that need surpassed friendship; he was so in love. (SIGN was basically Holmes trying + failing to get Watson to stay with him, IT WAS!) In canon, I think Holmes is Watson-sexual, and I don't like how GR made it seem like Holmes/Irene had a fling before and that there was sexual attraction b/t them, bah. Holmes' heart only for Watson=canon.

... And the thing is, based on my reading of canon (the books, I mean), I think not only did Holmes love Watson first, but Watson was also his FIRST LOVE. I mean - Holmes's admiration of Adler was more an admiration of her wits - but he never NEEDED her, he never needed or wanted anyone in his life the way he needed and wanted Watson. Right from the start... And right until the very end.
