I got abit tired of carrying buckets around my house... So i got a hose linked up to my washing machine output... I got sick of disconnecting this all the time and dragging hose trough my house... So I had an idea :)
I put a second output on my washing machine water line. A 5min plumbing job. So have a tap for the washing machine and a tap for my aquarium. I then went to BnQ and got a silent toilet float valve for £8 and some addapting bits all together £13.00
I then ran hose from the kitchen where my washing machine lives. under the carpet to my aquarium.
I simply attatched the float valve to a block of wood. Connected the input hose on and secured it. I used a lift pump half way in the aquarium... just incase the input fails my lovely fish has some water left. You could just syphon the water. But I'm abit sick of swallowing fish water. So I used a pump :) the water goes through a hose with a simple tap attatched so i can control the rate of flow. The hose then goes out through a wall into a drain.

Parts used
1 lift pump
15 meters of hose
1 tie wrap
1 silent float valve
1 jubalee clip
1 inline tap
1 T juntion
1 Washing machine tap thingy

All can be bought from DIY shops. I went to BnQ for ease but they're not the cheapest.

  • I hoe you have a check valve installed , to avoid a back flow from the washing machine should the line clog

  • @Thecoralreefaquarium it went streight out through the wall into a drain pipe from the guttering.

  • Where does the water drain too the kitchen drain ?

  • @espirates2 behind the tank, i drilled a hole through the wall and tracked the drain hose into a rain water pipe.
