Volunteer cadets from North Wales Police have spent the weekend training for their Duke of Edinburgh award.
Last weekend saw the cadets take part in a practice expedition to help prepare them for their main expedition, which takes place in June.
16 cadets from the Eastern Division began their journey on Friday when they walked 10 miles from Chirk Railway Station towards Glynceiriog.
The main aim of the expedition was to help develop and improve the skills they have learnt over the last 12 weeks, to prepare them for their challenge this summer. This included map reading, using a compass and camp craft -- with the cadets sleeping outdoors in tents. The cadets also had to carry their own equipment and build on team working skills.
The Duke of Edinburgh award is a challenging programme of activities which helps young people learn new skills and experience adventure. It is open to anyone aged 14 to 25-years-old.
Sergeant Melanie Brace said: "The intention of the voluntary cadet scheme is to train young people to become positive and active citizens through partnership with local communities, and to allow them to assist with a host of non-confrontational events.
"We've spent the last 12 weeks training the cadets for their expedition in June. The training has involved working on map reading skills, how to use a compass, how to write a route card and camp craft.
"The Duke of Edinburgh's Award aims to provide for young people an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach. All of the cadets are looking forward to the challenge that their summer expedition will bring them."
