I filmed this at Smalls in NYC, June 29th 2006. Miguel is with Bruce Barth, piano; Doug Weiss, bass; Jason Marsalis, drums. Sorry about the dark video - the solo is totally badass though.

It's just bad luck to be in a crowd with a bunch of loud idiots standing next to you.

nothing bugs me more than performing for a quiet, stale audience. there would be no reason to play for people if they didnt get involved. listen to miles' version of stella from the 1964 four and more concert. at 1:50, i think that's the most beautiful moment in the song.

how is it possible to have dislikes for this video. for those who dislike this need to get a real life. this is truly real music being created on the spot. i listen to this vid at least once everyday cause nothing excites me more than a crowd that goes wild for the players wish that would happen more often at the jams i often go to.Yeah miguel zenon what a player. If anyone wants a copy of this solo please give me your email cause i'm gonna transcribe this. It's so bad ass that i just have to.

@eatsleeptrumpet, dude thank you, as a jazz musician who grew up going to smalls and fat cat, the audience reactions helped make the music and sense of community. oh and if you dont like the audience reaction, BUY THE RECORDS!!! Dont get all upset when frankly BOOTLEGGED music ends falling short of your sonic expectations.

@wangdasan - c'mon this is Smalls where all the young and upcoming musicians go to interact and play in the country's most important important jazz club. It's untainted by the ideal that you should sit there and listen to music without encouraging the artist and truly enjoy jazz in a real 'alive' moment here in the new millennium. If you want museum jazz go buy a jazz festival compilation and support the artists, fool. Eatsleep.. thanks for posting!
