Peyton Manning's 49th TD Pass According to Tecmo Super Bowl

It was December 26th, 2004, when the Chargers and Colts faced off in week 16 from the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Both teams were 11-3 heading into the game, each hoping to gain playoff positioning.

History was made that day. Coming into the game, Colts QB Peyton Manning had thrown 47 touchdown passes during the season, only 1 away from tying a record set by Dan Marino.

The Colts fell behind early. Manning threw the record tying pass on a shovel pass to James Mungro. The Chargers led 31-16 in the 4th quarter, however.

The Colts would come roaring back, first with a kick return TD by Dominic Rhodes. Then, Manning threw the record breaking touchdown to Brandon Stokley. Immediately after, they got a 2 point conversion to tie the game and force overtime, where they would win the coin toss and kick a field goal to win 34-31.

Despite the fact that Patriots QB Tom Brady broke the same record this past year, this thrilling game remains one of the most memorable contests in recent history. And even more memorable to myself personally, as I was at that game.

This video is a Tecmo Super Bowl (SNES version) recreation of the record breaking pass as well as the ending of the game.

You know on Tecmo, the CPU plays A LOT faster late in the season and in the playoffs? "Juiced" mode makes the AI play at it's hardest level for every game.
