The final song from Final Alice by David Del Tredici. An acapella version of the acrostic poem that ends Through the Looking Glass. The first letters of each line spell out Alice Pleasance Liddell.
this is a sad song, but also and interesting one in fact. i had to play this exact song in band this last year and it does not have a final note, thus the name, Final Alice
@Chesterton7 read the back-story behind this unbelievable haunting piece. it breaks the heart and makes the piece unbelievably, almost painful to listen to. But there is beauty in the pain. Please do not remove this incredible piece of music.
A boat beneath a sunny sky, Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July-- Children three that nestle near, Eager eye and willing ear, Pleased a simple tale to hear-- Long has paled that sunny sky: Echoes fade and memories die. Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes.
Thankyou for posting this. I've not heard this music for years and I can't find a recording anywhere. The one conducted by Solti seems to be out of issue. The full orchestral version is a fantastic work. I hope to hear it again some time.

We sang this song for chorus. It was very interesting to learn the back story for it.
