Dr Greg examines a puppy with a limp. Most limping is caused by toenail problems, wounds, rashes, muscle strains and joint strains. Splinters, mud, plant awns, wounds, and rashes can make the toes and pads very sore. If the limping is not severe, a few days of anti-inflamatory medicine like aspirin may help. if your dog is painful...seek veterinary advice

  • hey. my dog is a staffy/shih su terrior and she randomly screams and limps for 10 secs on her bak right leg it started for 3 days but she very active and does everything normally and shes 1yr nd 2 months old i just wanted to ask you wat would be the reason for this.

  • @MRsikhG654 Hard to know unless I see and feel it. She may have strained it if she still uses it.Get it checked if not better in two days, but sooner if it really hurts

  • hi. my 7 week old yorkie feel off the bottom two steps in my house and hurt his front left leg. at first he wouldn't walk at all, but now he will walk and even try to run, so it seems like its getting better. do you think it's just a sprain?

  • @prettygirlky11 Probably just a sprain, if he gets worse have it checked out

  • hi dr.! my dog sukie she is a dachsund well she has flaky skin red bumps all over her and she is constanty biting it!? what should i do she eats plays and sleeps fine??

  • @SuperFancycheese Fleas, lack of oils, and allergens cause skin problems. Treat for fleas, quit feeding treats, and follow the simple rules of the Dog Dish Diet! There you will learn to stop feeding allergens and supplement with healthy human food

  • informative!

  • @stephaniej1980 No good otc med for tapes. We usually use drontal pills. Glad she's doing better

  • @DrGregDVM thats what i thought too.....i work in medicine so i have a clue here and there as to what the prob could be but i dont know dog anatomy lol, she is doing a lot better now, still limping so i am guessing it is a sprain but she is getting up voluntarily finally, and her little tail hasnt stopped wagging.......thanks for ur advice tho! PS what is a good OTC med for tapeworms in a 2mo old 20lb pup?

  • @stephaniej1980 Hard to say without feeling around and seeing her walk. If it isn't any better in a day or two get it checked out.She could have even popped her hip out of joint or torn her acl ligament
