This is the first in the Video Diary of Kai Allen to journal his struggle with Reflex Anoxic Seizures and associated issues.

It started with what seemed to be breath holding spells for around 4 weeks, gradually increasing in intensity and frequency (upwards of 3 per day) over the week previous to 24-11-09.

On the morning of the 24th he had his usual spell and was lying face down on the floor, at the end before he would usually go limp, there were a few seconds of bilateral clonic movements and jerky head movements. At that time I rang my husband at work and arranged to take Kai to the doctor that afternoon to get him checked out. As my oldest had simple breath holding spells I had just thought it was the same thing, with hindsight and after that morning I realised they might never have been as simple as that.

Around 5pm he again had a spell and I picked him up before he would usually go limp, again instead of going limp the bilateral clonic movements began but this time they didnt stop.

  • I don't know what I would do if my kid ever has to go through this. I wouldn't not be able to be as calm as you. I have watched the majority of kai's videos so I am aware. I suffer from seizures as well and am terrified I will passed it to my kid. I don't know what causes mine though. Luckily I have my fiance there for me.
