Ali: Best there ever was, best there ever is,and best there ever will be! I can watch that shuffle all day!

Ali should have retired after the Shavers fight in September 1977.

@joshua626 Read my response to djmax2k6, as I made reference to you in it. But my point is that the only Ali that would've had a shot at actually beating a fighter like Holmes is a pre1975 Ali. Holmes has a shotgun jab AND knew all (or most) of Ali's boxing tricks because he was his sparing partner. Ali in Zaire in 1974 would've beaten most boxers in history. Ali here in 1978 would've only beaten a handful of amateur fighters, like Leon Spinks.

@djmax2k6 And let's not ignore the fact that although Ali is out classing and out boxing Spinks...he's also not hurting him or doing any real damage. He can't at this point in his career. An Ali 4 years earlier would've knocked this joe blow (no offense) out!

@djmax2k6 In response to you and the other guy (don't see his name on this screen anymore) who suggested this Ali would've had a 50/50 shot at beating Holmes, I don't want us to get over-romantic with Ali in this fight. He was outboxing Spinks but he is way past his prime. Had Spinks actually trained I'm not sure this Ali would've beaten him. And certainly Holmes would've destroyed this Ali as well. Holmes was Ali's sparing partner, he knew his tricks. And Holmes jab is as stiff as Ali's.

@SigfridKargElert True. however it's a shame that we didnt get to see the same hungry, relentless, spinks of the first fight in this one. That would of made Ali's victory even greater.

@vladiator100 I agree on all acounts ! I also beleive, this is one of his absolute best dance/footwork performance's ever..he also working the combination punches extreamly well. I've said and I will stick with it..this night..Ali would have beaten any one in the Ring..including Larry Holmes. The fact that he was handling a very fast light heavyweight this night..a bigger heavier boxer would have been road kill for Ali with his speed that night!

@musicmatty67 Considering Ali was 37 and way past his prime I thought this was one of his best performances in his career, he was virtually flawless against a strong much younger boxer. He came in great shape, danced for 15 rounds and baffled Leon for the entire fight. To be honest I think this Ali could have beaten Frazier in their first fight.

Its not even his age here, he has Parkinsons already, I bet we'd see a totally faster and different fight out of 37 year old Ali if he wasn't fucked up.
