The problem is that these merchants are not allowed to be armed for self defense. If we just allowed merchants the right to bear arms, most of the pirates would not even both attacking because they would be shot. If these merchants break the laws at sea and are caught, they will be tried in court just like any other criminal or pirate.

BUT, these ships all sail within an exclusion zone, so that they can make more money from a quicker turn around. I'm not defending the piracy, I deplore it. Yet, these merchant ships can complain all they want, but this is coming from sailing in the zone, which is not patrolled by NATO ships, if they just sailed where they are supposed to, they would be safer...

This is a clear example of gun control. The merchant ships are disarmed because they are told that they can depend on the Navy to be there for them.

because merchant ships should carry guns- a very simple and inexpensive observation and solution to the pirate issue- if a couple .50 cal machine guns were mounted on the ships pirates could be tore up a mile out
