In 2010, Cornell Elementary School accepted a National Blue Ribbon Award for making great strides in improving their curriculum and technology. With 25% of their students requiring special education, and 65% living in some sort of poverty, the staff, teachers, and students have obstacles to overcome. With new technology in the classrooms, a hands-on learning initiative, and some creative teaching methods, Cornell Elementary School is succeeding where others schools are failing. Test scores are up across the board, and student engagement seems to be off the charts.
