North South Choke as shown by ADCC/BJJ champ

So you passed guard and secured side mount position. The guy has perfect arm defense and he won't give you his back. Worse, leg locks are not allowed! What can you do in this situation? I originally learnt "north-south choke" from Tito Ortiz who submitted Rumina Sato with it at ADCC 2000. This is the newest version explained in full details by Jiu-Jitsu world champ, Mark Garcia.

As effective this choke is I never could understand why the mma fighters dont use this very often . When I wrestled almost 40 years ago .I used this move all the time to mes with my apponents . Every pin I got was with that combination but not all the way as the choke was ilegal in varsity wrestling in 1970

This choke takes a LOT of practice. Simplest chokes are often the most intricate.

People who don't train wonder why this move isn't used more. It's a touchy choke to hit. It takes a LOT of practice to nail it. Keep in mind the north south choke master just showed you how to do it. Of course it looks easy when Marcelo Garcia does it.

@ibhardonyou You have to have room to work this submission. Most of the time a fighter on his back will also have his head on or very near the cage by virtue of having been pushed there during the take down.
