Taiwan's first female candidate for president, Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), talks about the neccessity for judicial reform.
"We do need to carry out a very comprehensive judicial reform here. I was a law professor for a long time. And I know that this judicial system is not serving as the protector of justice of the protector for the disadvantaged people here. So the judicial system is actually the most important thing to make sure that your democracy is functioning properly and your human rights is protected in the right way."
Taiwan's elections for President and Parliament are scheduled for 14 January, 2012.
On 23 April, 2011, Tsai met members of Taiwan's international community to talk about her policy plans.
