This video demonstrates the value of an integrating video camera for imaging astronomical objects. The video shows three different galaxies. For each galaxy the video commences with no integration, and end with an integration of about 8 seconds. The video was taken in a suburban environment affected by significant light pollution, on a night of poor seeing.

Technical details - camera was a Watec 120N+, mounted on a 35cm Meade LX200GPS telescope with a 3x focal reducer. The field size is about 15 x 10 arc minutes.

  • ironically the old style videocon tube video cameras were ALL integrating cameras.

We only lost integration when the switch was made to ccds.

rememebr the old blurs and ghosts when you panned an old vidiotube based camera from a bright light? that image ghost was the integration on the phosphor surface of the video tube inside the camera.

  • what's that thing the passin from right to left side in the vdeo?

  • For this helpful video write in the tags the words:

    watec 120N 120N+

It would be easier on searching for camera's info.

    Thanks for sharing this video.
