I used to live near that masjid. What happened to the other Imam Ashraf? He was there when I was still living in New York which was about 3 years ago. He was in his late 20's from Alexandria, Egypt. He had one of the best voices I've ever heard in my life. I could never understand why he didn't make albums reciting Quran. He should be much more famous (for his Quranic recitation) than he is.

Salamualakum. regarding sheikh Ushruf he is now in Egypt married and has a little girl. Things are going really well with him over there and I ask Allah to increase glad tiings upon him. His voice is beautiful mashallah but I dont think he was ever seeking fame or popularity. he never allowed anyone to record him, we tried several of times. jazakallahu khyrun for the comment and the reminder of our imam.

@TabeebAbiDawudMD he now lives in conneticut with his family and is an imam at a masjid there,he visited this masjid several months ago to do the jummah salat and khutbah

@robertotheuglyman May Allah s.w.t. reward you for your efforts. When reading the Quran (for those who understand arabic they would know); you cant stop in the middle of an ayah if it wouldnt make sense. So if you end up in the middle of an ayah and run out of breath (which is the main reason for the reading twice) then they go back to the beginning of the ayah to complete it fully. I hope this clarifies it up for you. ;) salaam

@crimsonxdreamxx I am muslim now Alhamdulillah after observing muslim character manors and then reading the Quran MashaAllah, studying can't hurt.

MashaAllah what a beautiful recitation, can you recite a line in the fatiha twice like that, did he mispernounce it or something? not to my ears, someone explain without dissing me InshaAllah. Thank you.
