I want to share the wonders of Slack key ukulele ...I'm just a beginner, but the sound is stupendous when going to open-chord tuning and the notes all just seem to pour out of the ukulele with very little effort. Big thanks to Uncle Dave ( ukeuncle ) for publishing his easy-to-study book. These songs are perversions of palolo and na pipi hiamoe twisted by my tin ear and fumbling fingers. :-) aloha!
PS: See Uncle Dave in his Lauhala Hat with feather hatband playing Na Pipi Hiamoe correctly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp4R44oUoYg

  • yeyeyeyeaaaah!

  • Beautiful Lopaka. Mahalo for the credits. Not easy to do on small uku, can I give you a baritone? lol. Just finished writing a novel I wanted to get out of the way so am back into my uke again. Send me your email so I can send you tabs for hula maiden. To daveheaukulani@yahoo.com. Aloha no.

  • Been away awhile from YouTube trying to write a book for my day job at UH Hilo, LOL. Mahalo plenty for the advertisement, Can I send you some big island candy? Beautiful playing as always. What uku is that one? did you build it? Nice tone. Aloha no.

  • Very nice, and also pono you give the honor to Uncle Dave.

  • nice

  • .. his CD track is just stunning to hear. His YouTube video has some audio problems and makes his uke sound rather buzzy... but that is not the case...it's his camera's fault. One day, I will learn his piece verbatim because there is no improving on perfection. I'll post a link in the video description here.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you noticed. It took me about five takes to get a relatively flub-free video ....which meant I retuned five times to get the task on video. I also played a little slow to (hopefully) capture all the fingering on the video. I know Uncle Dave's arrangement is much better than my little demo... in fact, his is a very sophisticated piece of music. You might want to check his(ukeuncle)video because I think he has really captured the mana'o of the original

  • This is a neat video. I like the way you slackened the strings right on camera, so people can better understand the concept of slack key.
