A teapot is thrown and put together in about 5 minutes. The finished teapot is a little funky but it is functional, I think!

  • Very impressive. That was so fast! I'm going to challenge myself to do something similar because I think I need to speed up my working style. Are you familiar with Ruthanne Tudball in the UK who throws and assembles her teapots wet on the wheel?

  • @Yitchie Thank you for your comments. Yes I know Ruthanne, we are friends. Mary and I visited her in England a couple of years ago. She makes wonderful work, nice soda glazed pieces.

  • Dcuzick, i agree...people fuss too much. i do love throwing in a spontaneous way, most of my pots, bowl and mugs have a dent or are floppy to one side: it's very beautiful.

  • bifyuchan, read what I wrote to Flaggot. This is not how I make teapots, it is an exercise to get loose so that you don't "fuss too much". I generally rewedge those teapots or correct the handle, lid gallery, etc. if I keep the piece. The idea is to be fast, so you don't think too much. Try it, it's fun!

  • Flaggot, this is an exercise, the purpose is to loosen up a persons work. Many people fuss too much, this opens up other possibilities that may be use on a more refined piece. If you want to see more "elegant" tea pots see my website. Search "Cuzick pottery".

  • Great practice technique! I'm looking forward to giving it a try!

What's the name of the red tool you use to measure the lid and the top of the pot, so they are the same size?

  • if i were making this i would make it on a bat, so i wouldnt have to touch it again till it was lether hard, his clay is very wet, i do realy like the shape of this piece and the handle is clever... nice work

  • after I watched this video, I went and tried this. It tottlly worked! This definatly helped my throwing and has really helped hone my skill, thanks so much.

  • it's a shame you didn't take time with the handle. you can really throw fast and well, but when you put the handle on : it looked a bit of a mess and then the rim got spoilt. am sure the handle would come off. can we see the finished product. verdict: Great but very rushed!!!

  • real quick way to make a tea-pot! i like to try it.

  • Very cool can't wait to give it a try. I have a habit of over doing my pots to the ruin, so this would really be a good exercise for me! ;-D

    Thanks, Karen

I'll let you know how I make out ...
