I don't usually do reptile rescues but the needs of these guys have meshed very well with what I'm capable of. They came from a very poor situation originally. They were in fairly poor health and their growth was stunted but 6 months of proper care and a species-appropriate diet has really turned them around.

Diet consists of krill, earth worms, tilapia, mosquito fish, silver sides, chicken breast, hearts and liver. NO GOLDFISH! Goldfish are the worst thing you could feed your pet!

Currently they're housed in a heavily filtered 75gallon tank until we get some steady warm weather. When temps come back up I've got an 800gallon pond for them outside.

If you have a florida soft shell that is ill or in distress feel free to ask me questions. I am not an expert but am studying the species extensively. I'd be happy to share any info I have collected on them and can probably help you find local herp vets.

  • The blood parrot is like "I wanna be in the video tooooooooooo!! " Hee hee!!!

  • @Nekokohime That fish is a mean little turd! lol Believe it or not, he picks fights with the turtles all the time. I don't know why they haven't put him in his place yet.

  • @magscat3161 for months and months my tiger oscar picked fights with my softshell which was smaller than him. all of a sudden after 3months my turtle turned on him and there was nothing left of my oscar except it's back bone. a 14inch osca..... a 6inch softshell turtle. beware No fish will be a perminant friend of a softshell turtle in a tank. since this i've tried a 16inch malawi, 10inch pleco, and another very agressive oscar. none of which get along with my softshell...there eaten

  • @bkermike Since this video was taken the turtles have been moved to a drastically larger enclosure out doors. I built a large pond specifically for them and stocked it with some small native prey species. The blood parrot seems to have gotten over what ever anti-social issues it used to have with other fish and it now lives with a school of other bloods in a 150gallon stock tank in my den.

LOL!! They're so territorial. I have three (not in the same tank as my goldfish, of course) and they're always picking fights with each other. It's a good thing their little mouths are so dysfunctional or there would be a lot of nipped fins. Lol

  • so happy they are doing well. good job :)
