IF you could "translate" it into Standard English (an irony, I know) it would look like this: "...I talk with a BBC accent is because
you wouldnt want me to talk about the truth with a voice like one of you scruffy, working-class people.
If I talked about the truth like one of you scruffy people, you wouldnt think it was true just one of you
scruffy people talking."
scruffy = dirty, untidy, not reliable.
