By CAROLINE CURRAN • BEACON STAFF WRITER U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., speaks with Beacon reporter Caroline Curran about President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, jobs, the economy and what's next for healthcare reform. During his State of the Union Address on Wednesday, Jan. 27, Obama addressed the economy, saying, "The worst of the storm has passed." But not everyone agrees with that assessment. Some people say its too early to tell, while others argue the worst of the storm lies ahead for the nation. Burr said the worst of the economic storm was not over for North Carolinians or Americans. "I think that actual unemployment may go up from where we are. I think the president may be technically right, but I think that until every person who wants a job has a job, until everybody that needs a loan gets a loan, until business feels comfortable that they know what the rules are so that they can invest in the future—therefore hiring new workers, expanding their plants—then North Carolina, no state is going to feel the true impact of growth in our economy," Burr said.
