DISCLAIMER: Nothing except the video itself is mine. I don't own Children of Dune or anything to do with it (except for a copy of the DVD, of course) and the song isn't mine, either. "My Medea" belongs to the brilliant artist, Vienna Teng, and Children of Dune belongs to Frank Herbert, etc. Not mine, don't sue, you get the idea. And I'd be much obliged if this video stays up.

LYRICS:

Inside the labyrinth walls
There lies a tiny child who sleeps alone
And as the daylight falls
The wind becomes so wild across the stone

For I have made her prison be
Her every step away from me
And this child I would destroy
If you tried to set her free

So come to me my love
I'll tap into your strength and drain it dry
Can never have enough
For you I'd burn the length and breadth of sky

For it's my thoughts that bind me here
It's this love that I most fear
And this child I would destroy
For I hold her pain most dear

No haven for this heart
No shelter for this child in mazes lost
Heaven keep us apart
A curse for every mile of ocean crossed

For I must die for what I've done
A twist of fate a desert sun
For I see what I destroy
Sweet reflection knife into me
For I see what I destroy
I can see what I've begun

Okay, after about the 3rd time of all the gazillion times I've listened to this song, it struck me that it fit Alia's story very well. I'm not a HUGE fan of Dune, though it is a brilliant series and I do like it (it's like LotR for scfi people, lol), but once I get a good idea in my head, it's hard to let go of it. So I made this.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Dune or the character of Alia, here's a taste of backstory:

Imagine knowing everything you know as an adult...only while still in your mother's womb. That's a rough idea of what happened to Alia. In short, she grew up WAY too fast.

Erm, what else...um, her grandpa was an evil guy and she killed him.

And then later, as a 16-year-old, (for reasons that are too complicated to explain in a video description), she is plagued by voices in her head. Her grandfather's spirit comes to her, offering to drive the voices away if she'll let him have a little corner of her mind for himself. She agrees...but over time, little by little, he takes her over completely.

Her nephew gives her two choices to save herself: Suicide, or a trial. And...yeah. The rest is history.

Even if your not familiar with the Duniverse, I hope you enjoyed this! It was fun playing around with the special effects on my new software, hehe. :-)

  • wow, beautiful video! Perfectly timed. Excellent choice for Alia!

  • Thanks! I'm glad the timing turned out alright; a lot of it was guesswork and nail-biting, lol.

  • yes, poor Alia. Hers was the most tragic of all.

  • Poor Alia, such a tragic path she had to walk. A very sad part she had to play. At the end, all she wanted was her brother.

  • The lyrics fit suspiciously well.

  • Anyone thinks Dune and Children of Dune are the same thing like the Matrix movies, Star Trek and Star Wars movies, Stargate, The Dark Crystal, The Fifth Element, and Avatar? they all share similar themes.

  • @frankgualtier

You a Dune fan too of the novels? they are going to do 3 or 4 movies based on the first Dune novel for the big screen.

  • Alia is one of my fave characters in the books and this is the best Dune movie ever as it's better than Sci-fi's first effort and the 1984 Lynch monstrosity. Alia was casted perfectly.

  • @redivan678

Perfect? have you read the Dune book? Lynch's movie was a terrible expensive parody of the novels than an actual adaptation and nothing more than a movie that reflects the ego of David Lynch with his perversion of the novel. Lynch knew nothing about the book and was a miscast director for such a project. Mark my words, the new 3 or 4 part big screen Dune movie will make fans of the novel like myself happy and erase the memory of Lynch's abortion for it was a fucking Lynch movie.

  • @Gregoryxyz

I know and she loved her brother very much.

  • Respond to this video... beautiful .....simply beautiful . well done n kudos.

  • Exactly as Leto 2. Turned into a monster. Living for tooo many nights too alone.

  • @supercalo79 About the same fate as Pauls fate. Forced to a life in horror.

  • Awesome! I named my daughter Alia and she is nearly 3 months old. Love the books and the character. Such a tragic one.
