Great opening. Love "The Avengers" . Emma Peel is the best. But not Uma Thurman's though. I thought she did ok, but she's nothing compared to the beautiful and talented Diana Rigg as Emma Peel from the show.

Thanks for this post! Now I finally understand what went wrong. The scene where 'Mother' showed everyone the imitation Peel breaking in made no sense to me at the time. The "Soundtrack" with music "inspired" by the film is a complete mess - there are only 3 tracks that were actually used, and,
even then, only in the closing credits; and there's a photo used on the CD, of Uma Thurman as Emma Peel standing in the country with a Jag by a phone box,
which made no sense at the time, either.

Apparently that was to get a PG-13 rating, since the PG was almost universally used for live action kids movies by that point.

Being an avengers geek like me the film follows the structure of a TV episode. Every 15 mins there is a mini cliff hanger IE The double of Emma Peel shows up the cut to an add break so u have to spend 3 mins of commercials to work out what's to do. The origional plot Sean connery's character killing Mrs Peel Husband was cool. I'm glad Eddie Izzard being silent is cool. though when I saw it in the cinema I'm sure when he's character dies I'm sure He said FCUK!

The book was SO MUCH better than the final butcher job that was the movie.

Nice job! Hopefully, we'll one day see the missing sequences restored and the movie will be vindicated!
Cheers!

Good job, But in the opinion of many, THAT MOVIE was a disgrace to the original series... therefore, I refuse to watch it. And, "How Now Brown Cow"? WHAT!!??
But I give you credit, for the trailer-thing was well made.....
THEY INSULTED ONEESAMA!!(*fake sob*)
Had they not chopped the film to pieces and kept the original opening (which this represents -- it's in the scrpt as well as the novelization -- this would have been a much better movie. Problem was they didn't know what to do with the Avengers. It had potential, but they dropped the ball bigtime.

That seems like precisely the kind of code phrase they would have used back in the old series. It was not a terribly serious program.
