Great memories, great laughs! Thanks for the share.

@Elric33239 The week after TO ROME WITH LOVE moved to Wednesday, ABC premiered THE SMITH FAMILY against it and even in half a season, it finished in the top 25 shows.

@tomservo56954 Basically, it sounds like CBS didn't want to put the remaining "To Rome With Love" episodes on a dusty shelf until it finished the season and decided to re-position it in the time slot of an even less successful show until the fall. Typical network chess game! Thanks for clearing that up.

@Elric33239 We're each correct in our own way...ALL IN THE FAMILY replaced TO ROME WITH LOVE in the Tuesday at 9:30 slot. ROME took the cancelled THE GOVERNOR AND J.J.'s Wednesday at 8:30 slot until September.

@tomservo56954 According to the 1970-71 Network TV listings posted in Wikipedia, "All in the Family" replaced "To Rome with Love." If the source is incorrect, I would suggest that you go there and update it.

@Elric33239 ALL IN THE FAMILY replaced THE GOVERNOR AND J.J. in the Tuesday at 9:30 slot when it premiered in January 1971.

@Elric33239 No...ALL IN THE FAMILY got the Saturday slot, and MY THREE SONS the Monday one.

@tomservo56954 Goofed again! The actual gaping hole that "All in the Family" filled was created by the failed "To Rome With Love" which starred John Forsythe trying to restructure his "Batchelor Father" role with two daughters mourning the loss of their mother. TV programming is a weird business not for the squeamish!

@tomservo56954 OOPs! See what happens when you don't read? You already said that "My Three Sons" was the replacement show for "All In The Family!" I guess that's why the name "Those Were The Days" was changed. MTS was a family-oriented show so Silverman probably felt that because this show also featured a family that the word should be in the title. If so, I guess that's why he's a TV legend.
one thing that they got right from the start was archie and edith. o'connor and stapleton were born to play those roles.
