Johnny Mathis ~ After the Rain

"After The Rain" is another symphonic joy ~ the interplay of the gifts from Johnny, Michel Legrand and Marilyn and Alan Bergman. One can't find a sweeter and more compelling pairing. From the incredible CD of more the same, "How Do You Keep the Music Playing" (released 1993) and produced by the Bergman's and Jay Landers, producer of many of Johnny's wonderful CD creations, each song evokes the same emotions expressed by Johnny below. As I can not come close to expressing it any better- here are his comments from the liner notes:

"Michel Legrand is the consummate composer. His arrangements are endlessly inventive and deeply passionate. The same is true for Alan and Marilyn Bergman's lyrics. They express the desires of romance with a rare sophistication. It's been a delight to sing these beautiful creations.... their music will... never end." (Johnny Mathis)

And of Johnny from the Bergman's : "..... His voice dims the lights and makes all within the sound of it feel as though he's singing just to them. The mood he creates is one of intimacy, warmth and sensitivity. And it's a voice that keeps getting better.. wiser.. more knowing, move moving..... Every session was a pure pleasure and to hear our songs so lovingly sung is a gift which we will always cherish." (Alan & Marilyn Bergman)

As Johnny has mentioned elsewhere- lyricists are poets- and so true with the Bergman's: (full lyrics below). Listen to the strings around 2+ minutes while "the birds want to fly"- - you can hear them. And the following phrases are so poetic: " The trees, all in green, hang their leaves out to dry."- ... and later in the last stanza ... "After a while, you touch me and then..I feel like a flower that longs for a shower again " . What beautiful imagery!

in my heart, i find it hard to believe that all the songs by johnny still remind me of one person..........50 years later.....though not together, i love her still....time has found us apart but i have the memories of morro bay and her, Lana............smiles, thanks johnny............

Some I never thought I'd ever "see" him sing until you posted them...there are not enough hours in the day to view all of them..I never, ever tire of his voice - plus he is extremely handsome! Hugs.
