My Rimowa 26" suitcase was dented 7 places and the wheel was broken all from one flight UA844, 1/22 from SEA to SFO. I spoke with a lady @ check-in counter who was formally baggage service and she told me that I should be able to report and apply the claim. Other UA people at the counter sympathized about what happened and told me to go to UA baggage service. However an unhappy and unfriendly female supervisor at the baggage service that night declined and said "this is normal" "we don't take any responsibility" "that's what happens when you have a hard suitcase". What a #$"%#'!!!! What is UA standard? Are they taught to DECLINE any claim first? I can not even report it? Even my HMO is better than UA service!! I will never use UA again!

  • They did it on purpose. I have heard thru folks who work for the airlines that some like to screw up really nice luggage just for the fun of it. That is too bad.

  • Dents are fine in a hard-sided aluminum case. As for the wheel, either call Rimowa up or go into a store that sells Rimowa and they will give you a new wheel that attaches with a screw and a wrench that they will also give you. Rimowa wheels are designed to break off when they encounter too much force so that the wheel housing doesn't get damages, unlike just about every other brand that makes 4 wheeled luggage.

  • Next time don't forget to put a big "FRAGILE" sticker on your suitcase, even there is no fragile items on it, so they will take care your luggage, i always put a "FRAGILE" sticker on my luggage.

  • I repair luggage in Dallas and the Rimowa bags are really cheaply (poorly) built so I am not surprised. Now if you need some serious luggage, get Briggs & Riley (lifetime...UNCONDITIONAL guarantee).

  • I'd rather have a dented suitcase rather the stuff inside ruined. Plus, have you taken the fact that landing and turbulence knocks things into eachother in the cargo hold into consideration?

  • They can be fixed by the authorized Rimowa repair center.

  • First I saw this video, I wanted to say it is "a trip memory".

But seems like its damage is too much. I feel bad...

  • To bad about the wheel though. Was the bag heavy ? You might think that it shouldnt matter. But it matters a whole lot.

I work in norway and Ive never heard about luggage handler being extra violent with an expensive or crew bag ! ? Our company handles flights to the middle east and I can admit that it really takes it toll on the patience. Most of the bags weight in around 40-60 pounds and youre loading and unloading maybe 200 bags of exceptionable bad quality.A lot of those bags gets destroyed

  • I dont know what people think happends when they get loaded. They dont get wrapped in silk and put on cotton pillow. They get handeled quite roughly both in the airplane and in the baggage system. THe dents could very well come from the system (im not saying they do Im just pointing out that they might not have been done on purpose by some extremely evil luggage handler)

A bag like this is the best kind och bag to handle cause it got 4 wheels and can roll far in in the luggage compartment.

  • Sorry to see that happen. However, everyone I have consulted about aluminum luggage says the same thing: expect dings and dents from the get-go. The first dents are the most shocking. In time, you will come to appreciate the uniqueness of your well-traveled luggage.

  • They did it on purpose. They don't like people having hard cases, because they can't get in them with a pen like a zipper.TSA are assholes.
