Demonstrating how to stone a white sea bass while filming.
Diving the plentiful and rich kelp forests off Southern California, several white seabass presented themselves to the camera, this being one from that day. This was one of those times I was extremely glad to have a camera with me on the dive. As many seabass hunters know, they can present themselves in all sorts of scenarios making them a tricky fish to figure out. Shooting a 55" Daryl Wong Hybrid and wearing a 5mm Yazbeck Wetsuit.

Shot with a Sony HDR-HC9 and Gates Housing.

  • Awesome great video....keep'em coming.

BTW, what is the water temps at SCal and Central Cal?

    What thickness suit you wear?

  • @FreeDivingHawaii

Central Cal is notably colder than So-Cal, getting as low as the 40's in winter. So-Cal gets to about 53-55 in the winter and as high as 70 in the peaks of summer. 5mm suit for socal in the spring/summer and 7mm in the winter if you get cold easily like me.

  • Looks like some shallow kelp what area is this?

  • @driversed4u Its that one shallow kelp bed, you know, the one near the cliffs ;-P This was shot near Palos Verdes. You really dont need to be in that deep of water to find the fish, sometimes 5' or less even.

  • the greyghost is slayed haha nice vid and an even better shot

  • @sharkhunter01 im 16 and 4mm is fine during winter call n ask dive shops down here theyll tell u same thing

  • I use during the winter in Socal a Ripcurl 4/5/6 Ultimate elasto surf suit with attached hood in the winter and have gone down to 152 feet during the winter scuba diving and was fine while my buddies got cold halfway into the dive. In the summer I use a 5/4/3 or a 4 mil long john with a 3 mil long sleeve wetsuit shirt and separate hood. The Ripcurl Ultimate Elasto 4/5/6 is really nice for year round and nite diving. Buoyancy control is da bomb!

  • cool, my dad is friends with Daryl. btw how do you get 780 views in 4 days? I've had one of my spearfishing vids up for a month and it only has 312 views.

  • btw what kind of gun is this

  • Great shot man!!!! stopped em in his tracks :)

  • You editing has radically improved Austin:-) Nice one bro!
