As a little boy (1950s) I remember standing on the Farnham Road bridge (seen at beginning of the clip) and watching engines shunting about. Even in those days steam was used for passenger service only on the minor lines in & out of Guildford: Reading/Tonbridge and Horsham (line now closed) . But still engines were also used for general shunting, and for goods.
