Adapted bits of a broadside ballad from just up't road in Owdham.

Still plenty of nettles hereabouts. Hope no viewers are clemmed these credit crunch days.

  • Powerful still. I wrote a paper, while in college, about this piece of music. It has a long history. The lyrics changed over the years as social and economic conditions evolved during the Industrial Revolution in England. There are many primary documents available, if one is interested in pursuing the issue. I salute Maddy and June.

  • This is a prefomance that someone up above had to have inspired. What beauty!

  • I grew up on The Silly Sisters and listen them all the time. This performance brought tears to my eyes. This is remarkable.

  • This is what it's all about! I absolutely adore this performance by two of my favourite women in folk. And no, June Tabor maybe isn't a woman, she is an Earth Goddess! :o) x

  • So Moving..............

  • Oh is there a DVD of this show? I cannot get tired of watching it. June is so much better live than I ever imagined. I saw Steeleye Span in the seventies but this is is just so much nicer, more trad. Peace out.

  • The finest dirge ever written bar none. I have both albums of Maddy and June and this is the best work either of them has ever produced in my humble and considered view. I had been a fan of Steeleye Span for a decade before I found this. Genius.

  • Love the Silly Sisters

  • @DickHBox iTunes is CD quality, so you can download it and burn it on a CD if you wish ;-) I only download, saves a lot of space instead of all these CD boxes...

  • @pjotr60dvd Thanks for the pointer, but I collect CD's now. I used to have them on vinyl, but I can't afford that nowadays.

  • @DickHBox Both albums are on iTunes
