Shows how an electrical arc changes as a partial vacuum is placed on the container it is in.

The reason the electrodes appear to widen/narrow as the vacuum is pull is because of the top of the jar is deforming under the weight of the atmosphere pushing down on it.

High voltage supply is a 12kV/30ma neon sign transformer.

The arcs under partial vacuum are much more of a purple color in real life. The reason for the arc shimmering is because of the movement of air inside the container as it is pulled out and a partial vacuum is created.

*Probably important to note that in a true vacuum one wouldn't be able to see an arc, but this isn't a perfect vacuum.
