This was for a request that I show my Leslie speaker during a song. I took all the panels off to show the whole works. I just played a short and rough Everybody's Everything from Santana's third album from 1971. Organ parts originally played by Gregg Rolie.

  • The speed varies depending on the key or on how long the key is pressed?

  • @mypalrocco The speed is controlled with a switch attached to the organ (which you can't see in this video). It has two positions, which make the leslie use either a fast or slow motor speed. The lower rotor looks like it spins slower just because it takes longer to change speeds.

  • @progjazzfusion, the scrim cloth on the lower drum is used to reduce aerodynamic drag. It also helps to reduce wind noise while at top tremolo speed.. so it does indeed serve a purpose.

Like you, I like when the horn defectors are in place.

Good to see this Leslie also has the coveted Jensen P15LL bass speaker the 122's were specifically tuned for. Bet it sounds awesome with the middle back panel on.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @QuixotiqTruth The upper horn deflectors/baffles are there... is it common to see them missing? They are fused mounted into the plastic of the horn itself so the only way to remove them would be to break them off. The lower drum cloth was missing when I bought it, and I've been meaning to buy one for it - just haven't got around to it.

  • @dtimm612 Very cool, thanks!

  • @localcrew - i see the reflectors still on the top horns, so thats good. The wood top baffle being off sounds better to me and most others. The lower drum cloth being off doesnt make any sound difference as its so thin and doesnt absorb bass freqs anyways. But the big problem here is he has the middle wood cabinet back off, which seriously reduces the low end.

  • No baffles on the upper horns? No sleeve on the lower drum? Should make it sound marginally better. Nice vid!

  • @capacityplus Not sure about the speaker but I'm pretty sure that the organ was an M3. Of course I may be way off base here. My mind's not what it used to be.

  • I'm not sure but I think the 122 was used in 'A whiter shade of pale' and the organ might have been a c3 / b3. Anyone know for sure?

  • This is why no little box with knobs can ever come close to a Leslie!

The Leslie is ATMOSPHERIC, It actually moves the air AND the

sound, creating a natural VIBE you can FEEL as well as HEAR.

Nothing like it, and never will be, (unless its COPIED in detail).
