i kinda want a mandolin now. i play guitar and bass, and i think this is next :P
-
I opened this up in two new windows by accident, and one started slightly after the other (but perfectly in time, I think it came in at the first beat of the second bar), so a few seconds in I was thinking 'fffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu.
.. how is he doing all that with one mando!!!', then I copped on. Sounded great, like Planxty's intertwining mando and bouzouki lines. I can't repeat it though :( -
I have the same mandolin :0

So, don't be too creeped out, and I liked the music and all, but your hands and your visible arm were to die for. Like. Seriously. Sexy sinewy. Uh. Have a nice day.

@Inayaw, thx, I rock-climb, so that's where ebing skinny and having the odd arm tendon comes from. Your local climbing gym will be full of people with arms just like mine ;-)

awesome video sir. Was wondering if you had any advice for someone looking to learn more celtic standards on mandolin and guitar. I know how to play the insturnments, i just wanted to know of maybe some good songs or tab sites. i would greatly appreciate it.

@hamdigidy There is no such thing as "celtic" music. Irish and Scottish trad are different, as is Wlesh choral music etc. HOWEVER...if you like this music (Irish trad) you can go to thesession for Irish stuff, or to mandolincafe for mando tab (they have an Irish section). (google; youtube won't let me post links)

I love how deep the body is on that flatbacked mandolin. How did you come across this instrument?

Bought it in Mexico in '91, int he town of Paracho, where every other store is a luthier's. Lots of the Latino luthiers (and not just in Mexico) make jthese deep-bodied ones. It's a piece of crap, though-- my $180 Chinese Rover is a MUCh better instrument.
