I found this spider in my backyard today, and was wondering if it is a brown recluse? I try to stay far enough away from spiders that I really don't know for sure when I see one kind from another. However, due to the fact that they are known to pop up quiet a bit here in Texas, I am always on the lookout before putting on gloves, etc., especially anything that has been laying outside on a shelf, or somewhere that they are known to hide. The quality on my camera sucks but I thought maybe someone who knows spiders well enough to tell by the shape, might know at a glance. I just hope the damn thing didn't bite me and for some reason I just didn't feel it. A lot of brown recluse bites are not known until hours later, when symptoms start. Anyway, thanks in advance for any input. Has anyone out there ever been bit?

  • no because brown recluses (i think recluses is a word) have tiny legs and its way to dark.

  • Does not look like one to me.

  • I have a video of a brown recluse if you want to know what one looks like. The spider in your video is a crab spider.

  • It's hard to say, though its legs are poised similarly, its a bit dark so I can't see the violin on it. Otherwise it looks like a crab spider, especially if you found it in your garden
