An excellent report that addresses the uncertain future for indigenous Nicaraguans as they fight against their own government and people.

An 80% unemployment rate and commercialisation of the Mosquito coast has encouraged a growing trade in Crack cocaine. On a tour of the Ghettos of 'Little Miami', multitudes of brothels, crack dens and bars line the streets. The Nicaraguan government is unsympathetic to the natives pleas for land titles and autonomy of the Atlantic coast. In a desperate attempt to hold on to what is, traditionally, their land; a group of natives, the Miskit Indians, has taken up arms against the government. The authorities respond aggressively with the planting of land mines, a step contrary to an international convention, of which Nicaragua is a signatory.

Nicaragua is a true multicultural nation.

@crownmuriel remind them what they did to latin america? Did what? All of the spaniards who lived from the 1500s to the 1800s have long passed away. So what is it your friends from Spain did to latin America even though they actually had nothing to do with it. You act as if they sould feel "bad." Sorry but I HIGHLY disagree. The past is the past. Nothing to be ashamed of. Latin America is beautiful for it mixture of spanish, indigenous, etc. cultures. No you do not know.

@ralvarez15 EXCUSE ME! I know what the hell I'm talking about!! I have Spanish friends, I dated a Spanish guy, and I still have Spanish relatives in SPAIN! And sometimes my Spaniard friends say comments that are way out of line about Latin Americans and I got to remind them who they are talking to! Hence, remind them what they did to Latin America before they start running their mouth about Latinos. I KNOW THE PAST! THANK YOU!
