  • haha flatfood

  • This guy is easily one of my favorite drummers as far as technique and style! He is a living drum god in these areas and he continues to be so humble and honest! Horns up to a true professional!

  • I don't think this is flatfoot technique...IT'S FLATFOOD WHICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! No but really, Derek's a god but I always had a different definition of flatfoot.

  • @Battossai3000 no, you want no muscle tension. Just takes years of practicing to get fast and loose muscles.

  • Gotta try some of that flatfood!

  • does the feet need to be stiff...

  • Thank you Blairtoews for the upload. It has dispelled all doubts and fear of the mysticism shrouding Derek Roddy's drumming. Thank you again man you are awesome!!!

  • 1:47 best intro ever !!

  • That's not flatfoot because he is lifting the whole leg.

  • @JTJUDAS Really, there isn't any "poor" technique with trigger. People shit on Inferno because of his pedal setup, but... it's a pedal config geared towards triggered playing. The fact is that without triggers, the beaters are moving so quickly that they won't hit the head full force. That's why Roddy said he's going going 200-220 now without triggers.

Both are good! I tend to prefer un-triggered because I dislike the SOUND of triggers, but I have no qualms with it.

  • @JTJUDAS Precisely

  • Oh here comes the trigger talk again. Triggers are only cheating if you use them to your advantage because of poor technique. Derek and George don't have bad technique but they need them because of the speeds they achieve. If any of you ever get to pro level death metal and play large arenas you'll have to use triggers eventually otherwise no bass drum to be heard for anyone.
