Have you spent your $900 stimulus money from the government yet? The stimulus packages have certainly given the retail spending figures a boost, up 1% in May after a 0.3% increase in April and a 2.2% increase in March.

But just what did you buy? Geoffrey Miller is an evolutionary psychologist and says it was probably something which was a waste of time, energy and money. He argues that too many of our consumer choices are prompted by the desire not to feel good so much as to look good, in an effort to display our superior intelligence, personality and evolutionary fitness to those around us.

  • @the42degrees UNLESS THEY'RE PORNO MOVIES.

  • (Not serious about the serial killer thing)

Great interview. His books are brilliant.

  • I've been reading Geoffrey's books and papers for a long time now, neat to see him interviewed.

  • Underappreciated, well and truly and ahead of his time, which has surely come.

  • @PeeGeeBeeDee I don't know what you mean. What do you mean?

  • @the42degrees I DON'T WATCH MOVIES.

  • i'm looking forward to reading spent. the mating mind was eye-opening! i highly recommend it.

@PeeGeeBeeDee his voice and appearance reminds me of sebastian in cruel intentions...

  • Spent is a very funny book. It's the human comedy from a scientific point of view.

  • @ElNinoBaudelaire

Yes! Humility is probably one of the most underrated traits.

  • @Iambecome He does. He's a little too smooth, a bit like you'd expect from a psychopath. But also like what you'd expect of a genius, which is what he is in my opinion.
