Weary Blues Climax Jazz Band 2008
This has always been a favourite by the Climax Jazz Band. There is another clip of this tune on youtube recorded in 1996 during our trip to Japan. Now twelve years later the band at a festival in Arizona plays the same standard arrangement ( The youtube clip in 1996 was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6gcCXNOwZ )
The band today just does a wonderful job. Jim Buchmann on clarinet plays a spectacular solo. What intrigued me this time was the tremendous drum solo. It seems that the bands regular, drummer Jamie Aug, cannot make many of these festivals any more, he has become an active businessman. Fortunately the band found for this trip a great replacement. From California Hal Smith often plays with the band. He is such a driving force and to see and hear him do one of his fabulous solos is a special treat.
Other members are Dave Kosmyna trumpet, Len Gosling trombone, Jack Vincken banjo and Chris Daniels bass
I agree with your notes, erwigfilms!! Seeing that drum solo on the drums, by Hal Smith, was a special treat!!
