The machinery imported from China to further strengthen the Uthutru Wasanthaya programme was officially handed over to the Government this morning. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian and head of the Uthuru Wasnthaya Task Force Basil Rajapaksa.
The machinery was imported by the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force, to further make the massive development programme launched in the North, more efficient. The stock comprises 257 machinery worth 2049 million rupees. Chinas Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yang Xiuping handed over the machinery to Basil Rajapaksa.
Mr. Rajapaksa said they started the development programme and resettlement after the war heroes rescued the people in the North. The Army Engineering Force is assisting them in the repair of damaged roads, culverts and tanks. Some machinery was received to be used for this purpose. He thanked the Chinese Government on behalf of the Sri Lankan people and the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force.
Mr. Rajapaksa inspected the machinery at the Galle Face Green in Colombo. These will be used to develop the road network in the North in addition to reconstructing tanks and anicuts. Minister Risahard Bathiyuddeen, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Highways Ministry Secretary Wasntha Karannagoda, Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuirya were present.
