What is it like to be a child living with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)? For more information visit www.livingwithadhd.co.uk.
This new short film, produced by JanssenāCilag Ltd, attempts to explain, by tackling some of the key issues surrounding ADHD from the perspective of a child with the condition.
It was made after talking to groups of doctors, patients, parents and teachers, who told us that too often people think ADHD is just an excuse for 'badly behaved kids'. They also expressed concern about the way ADHD is reported in the media, where it is often treated frivolously or fundamentally misunderstood.
Just search ADHD on YouTube and you'll find dozens of videos that claim to depict people (or indeed animals) with ADHD, including the ADHD drummer and ADHD chipmunk. More often than not, these videos make light of the condition or perpetuate myths -- and that's partly why we decided to make this film. Sympathetic and accurate, it seeks to redress the balance by speaking honestly and openly about what it's like to actually have ADHD.
If you know anybody affected by ADHD, please do share this film with them. Together, let's make sure all families get the help and support they need.
