Here it is, many will say 'finally,' a long awaited release of a track from the original sessions of Manila jazz legend Bong Peñera with Maria Dulce Soares da Silva. Recorded in 1976, the year Bong's A SAMBA SONG debuted with Maria's singing of the title song in her native Portuguese, Dudú (Maria's nickname), here, sings and feels most at home as she sings fellow countryman, Jobim's classic, Samba de Uma Nota So or "One Note Samba. By the way, Dudú translated Bong's A SAMBA SONG into Portuguese and sang it herself in that same album.
Featured here are the following musicians: Ding Poblete on drums, the original drummer for Bong's first LP, Sonny Nabong on bass and Bing Villegas on percussion. Bong plays the Wurlitzer electric piano and Dudú weaves her vocal magic. The recording was done in a very small studio in Makati, Rizal. It was a time when Bong and Bing were doing jingles besides their regular gig as the Batucada group. Sometime remained after recording a jingle and so Dudú with Bong's friend and manager, Chito Silva, who were on hand, sat in to do two tracks, this track and the other Reza,(or Laia Ladaia). The latter will be uploaded soon.
