  • Iam starting to believe the main objective for preachy athiests is to argue. Gives em something to do with all that wordly knowledge I suppose? Can't you just except that some people have spiritual experiences that you cant wrap your intellect around? Because it happens, its the Truth. And then you drill them for telling THEIR TRUTHS. Okay, I get it you don't believe in God because you have no proof. I except that, that is what you are experiencing in life.

  • @juliachildsvoice "Iam starting to believe the main objective for preachy athiests is to argue."

For starters, there is no "main objective" for atheists. MY objective is to engage people.

"Can't you just except that some people have spiritual experiences that you cant wrap your intellect around?"

My intellect wraps around it all to well. You experienced some warm, fuzzy feelings and, against evidence to the contrary, you assumed it was caused supernaturally.

  • YOU ARE A VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN! <3

  • Honestly, I think people just want to believe in 'God' or 'Gods'. I have no religion. Having people shove Christianity down my throat a good chunk of my life, I refuse to have any form of religion to this day. I have no religion, a decision that I hope others will respect. That aside, most people want to have something to believe in. Why? I have no idea. That's just what I think of the entire thing.

  • Hi Peach,

Very articulate and accurate. Please continue to speak up on this important issue. I think a "main objective" for active atheism should be like you said to "engage people", but at this point, we also need to get cultural acceptance for atheism in America and elsewhere (like the US did progressively with women, "blacks" and homosexuels) - it is the time atheists get out of the closest culturally and also in LEGISLATION and government.

You are very genuine and kind.

    All the best

    Kudos

  • @prschuster I would call myself an agnostic as well when it comes right down to 'knowing' if there is a 'higher power' (call it what you will), but I'm definitely an atheist in the way I choose to live my life. The terms are not mutually-exclusive. (apples and oranges, really)

  • @pmcollectorboy Hmm.. reverse-pascal wager? :O /searchesinternetz ;-)

  • Oh shit, it looks like Nine Inch Nails over here thinks he's a philosopher...

I'm sorry, that's unfair to Trent Reznor.

  • @juliachildsvoice The Flying Spaghetti Monster revealed himself to to me touching me with his noodly appendage and told me that the moon is really a giant meatball. Describing it would do no good. You don't have the ears to listen since it is spiritual in nature.

  • Not believing because of a lack of evidence is 'too easy' ... really? what does that even mean? I don't see why you felt compelled to respond to this video (much less in such a nice way)

  • cmon peach....when someone responds that their belief is based on a "revelation" - you can respond to that....you can point out that this same evidence supports the assertions made by muslims, hindus, scientologists, mormons, catholics, zeus, etc etc....furthermore, we skeptics are..well..skeptical...personally I think that ego and tribalism are enough to compel people to think a good mood one day can be passed off as a form of "higher experience" confirming their beliefs are correct

  • If i hold something in my hand, I can feel it. It's there, I believe it.. If I see something, it's there I mean I can see it with my eyes, it's real it's there. Now these same people that believe in God off faith alone, would not believe it if someone told them there's a bear outside there house(using this as an example) It is very possible that bear can be outside of your house because bears exist, but they will say oh whatever man I aint gonna believe it till i see it!
