Mindanao - Crucible of Terror? - Philippines

Since September 11, the US has regarded Mindanao as a major focus in the War on Terror. But this is creating tensions with the Filipino government, who fear it's enflaming the Muslim insurgency.

"Mindanao is the new Mecca for terrorism," alleges American ambassador Joseph Mussomeli. He claims that the separatist group MILF, fighting for independence from the past 30 years, has strong links to Jemaah Islamiah. But that's strenuously denied by MILF negotiator Mohaqmer Iqbal. "We are not terrorists. We would never mix with them." He fears that America's allegations are derailing the peace process with the Philippines. "They are lumping together the MILF with these so called terrorists so that the peace process will not proceed." If that happens, it may only further isolate the Muslims in Mindanao.

I am an atheist with no love or hate for any religion. I hav ebeen to Zamboanga in Mindanao and will go back this year. I have no concern. If the US are anti anywhere, I am pro.....I do not trust the US government. Note that before the Spanish invasion, the Philippines was a muslim country. The Spanish never controlled the south..it is effectively muslim.....most muslims are peace loving. i would trust the muslims more than the USA/CIA.
