Video showing how to emulate a scratch Like effect in Ableton Live 8 using the new delay Modes in the Ping Pong Delay. This is not meant to replace vinyl nor will it produce a totally authentic sounding scratch sound, but it is a Ableton Live only solution and is a nice add on to your effects arsenal. You can download the template at http://dubspot.squarespace.com/blog/2009/4/14/pseudo-scratching-in-ableton-li... . You will need Live 8 or later to open it.
Enjoy!

  • can you achieve this in live 8 standard version? if so how? i have been trying all day to get this to work, the template says im missing the sampler, is this the key component?

  • @dubledropa no, you're going to need Ableton Live Suite to do this. Sorry if that was unclear.

  • I'm fairly new to using DAW's and I have Live 8. How did you make template? I mean I know how you added the delay but how did you add macro effects? Do you have max for live? I see that some presets have macro effects but no way to map or change them. Sorry if its a bother but it would be helpful for me to because I'm a noob.

  • I didnt use Max for Live for this video. Just standard Ableton Live 8. to find out more about Mapping Macros you should check the section in Live's Manual on "Racks". They do a way better job explaining it that I could. Hope that helps.

  • are the scratches in the outro track made with this methode?

  • The outro piece was made by DJ Shiftee. He's a super talented turntablist, the DMC 2009 champ, and dubspot Instructor extraordinaire.

  • You can also do this by making a "white noise" or something like "saw 4" in the "OPERATOR" instrument and adding an auto filter to it and using a midi knob to change the filters frequency. This makes it sound kinda like scratching. You can also use combinations of the white noise and other effects.

  • WHAT CAN I SAY? I LOVE YOU GUYS FOR MAKIN ALL THESE GREAT TUTORIALS AND ALL THIS FOR FREE!

    THANKS ALOT!
