Valentina Lisitsa : interview + playing Rachmaninoff Warenberg 5th Concerto (1/2). Interview done in Rotterdam, May 29th, 2010. The other footage shows Valentina playing a piano solo recording of the Rachmaninoff/Warenberg concerto in Amsterdam and Valentina playing during one of the rehearsals with The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and a monitor-recording of her concert in De Doelen with the Rotterdam Philharmonic on May 28th, 2010. @lidyvps : Dank voor je compliment! Het Halloweenconcert in Leiden was leuk en bijzonder, Valentina en de andere muzikanten lieten veel moois horen, Valentina speelde o.a. de Chopin 27-1 Nocturne, Ravel's 'Gaspard' en Liszt's 'Totentanz'. Helaas heb ik dit keer niks gefilmd of er anderszins wat van vastgelegd. Ik weet uiteraard van de onbeschikbaarheid van de recital-cd, maar ik kan je de details niet verstrekken.

@lidyvps : die opnamen komen wel weer op de markt. En let op! Valentina komt op 14 nov. a.s. op de Nederlandse televisie in VPRO's Vrije Geluiden (VG) ! Het was ook hier even geduld oefenen maar ik had niet anders verwacht dan dat de goeie oren van de VG-redactie Valentina's buitengewone klasse zouden oppikken en honoreren met een optreden :)

@lidyvps : ik ben blij dat ik Valentina heb aangekaart/aangedragen bij VG, in Nederland voor haar een uitstekend platform. Een tv-optreden is wel het minste dat een uniek pianogenie als Val verdient. Zij krijgt er in onze contreien vast weer een hoop fans bij na dit interview en optreden. Het was heel mooi, ik was bij de opnamen :)

Trying to turn "symphonic" works into concertos: Ravel's Daphnis, a couple of Stravinsky's (but,no, not the "Psalm", right?), and like the last 2 of Lutoslawski would sort of work. My appetite is really for Prokofiev's like the 4th, you have 2 versions, and even the 3rd, but, man, that would be hard...How about Schumann's the 4th?...maybe somebody out there will feel ambitious...

This is a sound articulate defense of the Warenberg project. The personality struggle and the knowledge needed to reconcile the orchestra to the concerto format required forbearance and character strength from you. I have a sense that when your life's work is reviewed, your accepting the Rotterdam-Warenberg challenge will be seen as your finest hour.

Kudos to Warenberg and Lisitsa for this marvelous homage to Rachmaninoff. There are countless times throughout musical history of a re-creation by one composer of another composer's work. It was generally accepted and often expected. Why not now? Re-creation was often practiced by Bach and Handel.

Je opmerking over de cd bevestigt mijn vermoeden dat er meer aan de hand is dan 'uitverkocht'. Nou ja, ik houd het in de gaten, want ik wil nu eindelijk wel eens een cd van haar...
