Old Rally Bug

This is one iteration of my old rally VW Bug. It had a 2.8 liter VW Bus/Type IV based engine with a huge turbo and a Holley 600 double pumper carb in draw-through config. The thing sticking through the engine lid is the Porsche 911 fan.
It was also all wheel drive with a Datsun differential in front and pushrod-rocker arm inboard suspension.

The Datsun diff drove the front wheels. I picked the Datsun differential as it was small and there were lots of ratios available.

ok, but how do you power the front differential? you are using a vw gear box right? Do you have pictures of this set up? thanx!

I made an extension housing/nose cone (or my co-driver did) that allowed the PTO off the front of the 091 transmission. You can go to davesportdotcom and click the 'about us' link, then scroll down to the link to the old awd bug to see pictures.

what engine and what major modifications did you do to this beetle as id like to compete in some road rallys in jersey but id like a car thats different to everything else out there

That is pretty impressive, you guys should comercialize that gear box; I am sure a lot of vw baja enthusiast will pay for it...
