Might be wrong, but I think this may have something to do with meat rationing during WWII. If you couldn't always have steak, you could probably always get potatoes. Then again as someone else said, family picnics were a bigger deal in those days, which always means potato salad. Maybe it was both reasons. (Armed Forces Radio announcer--"What you say Ella Mae!!". Ella Mae Morse--"Solid Jack! Solid!". Ya gotta love the forties.)
@Rajamuttu Hey thanks, I'm an old dog tryin to learn a new trick. The reason I was trying to figure out the lyrics were so I could sing it at the next family BBQ. I've never heard of lyonnaise but it don't sound to bad though. Now all I need is the chord progression for guitar. Can you make that easy, I tried to google, no luck. I can figure it out it'll just take me awhile. My exmotherinlaw made the best P.S. none of that mustard crap.Maybe those Russkies SPY,s in NY found the clue on P. S.
Thanks to everybody that post this great music . Thanks to you too U-TUBE'

You really DON'T know how to search anything, do you? I don't even play a chordal instrument and I found it in 30 seconds.
Google "MoneyChords" with "Rhythm Changes".
It's in Wikipedia, too Google "Talk:Rhythm changes".
Try -- I V7/ii | ii V7.
And you REALLY should learn how to figure out chords by ear. Or buy a Fakebook.

@erikmartin2
The hidden meaning is that there is nothing wrong with potato salad ... especially on the Fourth of July.

Funny ... I was just wondering the same thing. I simply worked backwards. It rhymes with "ma-yo-naise", and seems to be "li-on-aise".
A quick search on Google yielded: "lyonnaise".
lyon·naise (lī′ə nāz′; Fr lyō̂ nez′) adjective --
prepared with finely sliced onions; esp., designating potatoes prepared with fried onions.
See how easy it is?
