  • I have a compost pile, and I turn it everyday. It's in a chicken wire silo, and the stuff on the bottom is hard to turn. It's been there for a few months, and it doesn't look like coffee grounds yet. What am I doing wrong? Can you help me out? Thank you!

  • You are turning the compost to often. It heats up better if you turn it weekly. You might also add some green & brown materials & get microbes active again. A pile of brown leaves alone will not break down well. Add grass and other green stuff & you'll get things working again. Mix compost well & let sit for a few days. Then check to see if it is heating up. If so, leave it for a few more days and check it again. If it is still hot, maybe mix it a little to get some oxygen in there.

    Good luck!
