Christians do this all over the world! They go to poor locals and offer healthcare to the Very ill and then tell the locals this wouldn't be possible without christ. They get a foothold in the area by offering heathcare and/or education then make it clear, you can only have these services if you convert and convert others. They did this to my people as well!
