This is the trailer for a feature length documentary film in post-production.
Project description:
Risking everything to answer the call of the spirits, a white American woman initiates into the mysterious, secretive world of the Afro-Cuban Yoruba Orisha tradition. Set against the backdrop of the richly textured Cuban culture, the film is the story of two people from vastly different worlds, drawn together by destiny: an Irish-American woman and the Black Cuban man who becomes her mentor as she undergoes the arduous initiation and apprenticeship.
It is also the story of the healing journey that began for her at the age of thirteen, when she first fell in love with the rhythms of Africa. As she crossed the borderline between cultures, she carried with her a dark secret, buried deep in her broken heart - and she knew she could never again go back home. Many years later, her great love of dance and music leads her to a fateful encounter with the man who will become her spiritual mentor. Felix "Pupy" Insua is one of the most famous Cuban rumberos, world-renowned for his dancing, drumming, and outrageous, flamboyant personality - and his extraordinary powers as a healer and priest of Shango. They meet - and their journey together begins.
"Dancing with the Spirits" is a feature length film in post-production. 90% complete, funds still needed to finish sound mix and purchase all music rights. If you'd like to make a donation to help complete the film, send an email to shambhalayoganyc@aol.com. Alafia, ashe!
