@pigpigpigwwf So? the AEGIS system is capable of using the 120mm gun to hit air targets..its actually such precise and fast that can intercept incoming missiles..if it can hit an aproaching small target at high speed imagine what it can do with a slower far bigger target like a plane..
Still today nobody makes attack runs with planes at close range on ships.. not since the Falklands

So I've learned. Along with airbursting shells, IIRC.

@harlequin2262 Actually, I have to disagree. It happens in real life because of the Aegis Combat System. I remember reading that in mere seconds, the system actually plots multiple functions of the plane's probable paths and can directly hit the fighter. That's the scary thing about high-tech war. Humans are getting easier and easier to be destroyed.

Stop whinging. It's a show. It happens.

@darkyoda Not really. It took multiple Zeroes for example to actually badly damage a US Carrier in WW2, but that wasn't even sunken damage, that was "Out of the fight: damage. It all depends where you hit.

@EVEMOWALLE In one battle, The british Bombers lost no one going against a Cruiserr, due to the fact the old planes were too slow for the targeting computer to track.... that is correct... They were TOO SLOW TO BE TRACKED. In Vietnam era that problem came up a lot, and may still be partially present. Older planes were FAR more maneuverable then the planes of today, but only went really 200-300MPH. So guns attuned to jets may lack the calibration to target thosek inds of small, agile targets.

@digitalkrashed Better then Spriggan where all Americans were just evil bastards.
-
@JRCitrus But he called them back.

I have the deepest respect to the Japanese culture but this is still a BULL SHIT! the ship used cannon and directly hit fighter planes
Besides, the anime storyline gave an american pilot a proper respect to his fighting spirit. I don't see how unfair the plot is because the plot gave both side their credits.

Vulcan/Phalanx point defense anti-missile gun fires very dense, heavy metal 20 mm rounds at a rate of 50 rounds PER SECOND. A 40's era SBD Dauntless taking this kind of fire would NOT get little bits knocked off. Rather the WHOLE aircraft would instantly BECOME little bits.
Having vented my gripe, would still have to say this amine series is entertaining.
